Reflux. Yuck!

Well, both girls decided to develop reflux. Pressley scared us to death by projectile vomiting her entire bottle up. There was so much force the milk was even coming out her nose. It was so scary! We called the doctor and she put both girls on Zantac. They take .4mg twice a day. Lyla has always spit up at each bottle and seemed to be bothered by it, wiggling and squirming before the spit up -- which means it was probably heartburn making her uncomfortable. Since they started the medicine there has been no more projectile vomiting, in fact, Pressley rarely spits up. Lyla still has a little spit up with each bottle, but its much less and doesn't seem to be bothering her.

More playmat pictures

Pressley is still not crazy about the playmat, unless she is staring at a BEAUTIFUL baby, herself! She has discovered and fallen in love with the mirror. She can stare at herself for about 10 minutes, which is pretty impressive considering "awake time" only lasts about 30 minutes total!

And Lyla is still fascinated by all the swinging animals above her.

My girls are growing up!

Today was a little emotional. We had a GREAT Dr. appointment, and then came home for a feeding and a nap. We decided to start following the suggestions in the book "Babywise" which teaches following a schedule. We had started developing a schedule on our own, but it was different every day -- same sort of thing, but the times always varied. Babywise says to start with a first morning feeding and then feed every 3 hours after that -- if you do that every day, you have a schedule, right? They also say to put your babies down awake and let them "self soothe", in other words, cry them selves to sleep. This is INCREDIBLY hard to do!! We tried it last night and the girls went to bed better than ever! So, it was very encouraging. They had a harder time through the night, but still not hard. We weren't successful at achieving a first morning feeding -- the girls slept too long, which should be a good thing, but it threw our schedule off before we even had one! Then we went to the doctor, came home for our feeding and nap, like I mentioned earlier. Feeding went fine, then the girls were awake -- which is what Babywise says to do -- so the girls played on the playmat and in their bouncy seats. Then I put them down in the own crib, in the nursery, for their nap. Here is their "big girl" picture:They went down GREAT! Both kept their pacies in and I was so proud!! I crept in to get this one picture, I didn't want to take anymore because I didn't want to wake them up. After I took this picture I went back to the living room and balled my eyes out. I couldn't believe my girls were big enough to go to sleep on their own!! Then the crying started... First it was Pressley, but she calmed herself back down pretty quickly and stayed asleep. Then it was Lyla's turn.

Babywise teaches you should wait 10-15 minutes before you try to calm them. Well, I waited until about 8 minutes, then ran in and gave her her pacie, I talked to her and calmed her down. She seemed like she was going to fall back asleep. Every time she got close she would start to wail again. This went on for quite some time. I finally gave up, picked her up, and rocked her to sleep. About 10 minutes after she fell asleep, Pressley woke up ready to eat. I try to always feed them at the same time to keep them on the same schedule. Well, I couldn't wake Lyla to save my life!! So, I fed Pressley just a little bit. She fell back asleep and then they woke up 30 minutes later and both ate a full meal. But, needless to say, our schedule was thrown off once again.

Tonight David and I bathed the girls at 7:30, fed them, swaddled them and put them to bed -- the Babywise method. They didn't make a peep and they have been asleep for about an hour and a half so far!!!

Pray for us. This schedule stuff is tough. And it breaks my heart to hear them cry! I know its good for them, and I know its the best way to get them sleeping through the night and the best way to teach them to go down for a nap without needing anything like rocking which means less stress in the long run, but its still HARD! All you Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Babysitters will appreciate us teaching them this!

I'm sorry, Goff Family!

Ok, so I'm not as creative as you may have thought. I totally copied Abby by wishing Savannah a Happy Birthday the way I did. I told my dad where I got the idea! I wasn't trying to be sneaky. I just thought I had time to give Abby credit. You'd think someone traveling around the world on a sailboat wouldn't check my blog as often as she did!

Thanks for the idea, Abby. You're so creative!!

she's here!

Savannah Caroline Varner has arrived!

She was just born around 11 pm. She weighs 7 lbs 13 oz and has a full head of dark hair like Lyla's but curly like Pressley's. We'll post pictures when and if we get some and have permission from the parents.

Welcome to the world, cousin!

Happy Birthday, Savannah!

The girls are hoping their cousin, Savannah is born today... exactly one month after their birthday. Its 10:30 pm now and Lorren is 10cm dialated and pushing, all 3 girls may share the 29th, but Savannah is running out of time! To celebrate...As you can see, Pressley was very upset she didn't get to be there for her cousins birth, so was I!

One Month Old!

I planned on getting a better picture, with both babies awake and in the same outfit. But Lyla had other plans. She went through 5 outfits today! She either spit up or pooped on all of them. And, she slept ALL day long! So, here is what we came up with.

Pressley Sneezing

This is from my cell phone... not the best video, but lets see how it turns out! This morning Pressley was sneezing, there were 2 real ones and you can hear her faking a third.

For you, Uncle Brent

Here is my first attempt at uploading a movie -- per Brent's request -- if this works well I'll do it more often!

This is Lyla wiggling around while sleeping. If you can hear sound -- we're watching Ellen int he background.

I don't know how to rotate the video, so you'll just have to cock your head to the side to enjoy.

Playmat!

First time on their playmat. They actually seemed to enjoy it! Lyla was definitely watching the dangling toys and Pressley watched Lyla.

Nakey Babies...

Growing up already!

I can't believe how much they have changed already! This Saturday will be the 29th -- my girls will be ONE MONTH OLD!! 11 more of those and they'll be a year! Time is passing too quickly already. They have started to really enjoy the ceiling lights, the pictures I have on my wall -- black frame, white mat, black picture with veggies in the middle, very high contrast. Our plaid curtains and their rainforest bouncy seat also really hold their attention.

Here is Lyla in her rainforest bouncy seat. She doesn't appear to actually be looking at the waterfall right now, but you get the idea.
Here is a gorgeous picture of Pressy, look at those big, blue eyes!

Easter

The night before Easter was the worst we've had so far. The girls only allowed us to sleep about an hour total. We didn't make it to church the next morning because we were exhausted and Pressy's cold came back -- ugh! Its amazing we all got dressed in church clothes even though we only got about 4 pictures before Pressy had a blow out diaper on her dress. So, here is what we got.
